CSU’s Phil-LiDAR project teams attend Mindanao Cluster meeting in UP Mindanao

The Phil-LiDAR 1.2.14 and 2.2.14 project teams of Caraga State University (CSU) attended the pre-implementation meeting and orientation of all Mindanao Cluster projects under the DOST-GIA (Grant-in-Aids) Programs: Phil-LiDAR-1 and 2. Phil-LiDAR 1 and 2 are research programs that were directed by the Philippine Government to conduct nationwide researches on the utilization of LiDAR technology for hazard mapping and detailed resource assessment, respectively.

The event was conducted in UP Mindanao last June 18, 2014 and was organized by the DOST’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD). It aimed to gather and orient the project team members and administrative officials of universities and higher education institutes (HEIs) that are implementing the projects under Phil-LiDAR 1 and 2 programs: Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Caraga State University, Central Mindanao University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, and UP Mindanao. It also became a venue for the discussion of the DOST Research and Development (R&D) Agenda and the DOST-GIA guidelines.

Each HEI was given a chance to introduce members of their project teams and provide updates about their respective projects. During the open forum, some issues and concerns related to project implementation were shared by HEIs and addressed to DOST PCIEERD. These include problems usually encountered in procurement, and scope of work of the implementing HEIs. On their part, DOST PCIEERD accommodated all the questions and issues raised. Ms. Maridon O. Sahagun (Chief of DOST Special Projects Division) adequately answered all questions related to procurement and project finances. On the other hand, Ms. Claire Reyes and Ms. Mary Joy Buitre, both from the Emerging Technology Division of DOST PCIEERD, provided explanations on matters related to project implementation.
